But God Said…

I’m a hot mess.  Life is a struggle lately.  I feel like I’m fighting against everything, and desperately trying to figure things out.  Sometimes it seems the harder I try, the less I understand.  What I’m seeing, though, is that God is whispering to me all the things I need to know.  So, yeah, I’m a hot mess, but I’m teachable.

Day 1…

I said, “I really need a job.”  But God said, “Not yet, Child.”

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”  Isaiah 30:18 “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you: he rises to show you compassion.  For the Lord is a god of justice.  Blessed are all who wait for him!”

I said, “I don’t feel like I have a purpose.”  But God said, “I have a purpose for your life.”

Jeremiah 29:11  “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I said, “I feel unimportant.”  But God said, “You are important to me.”

Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

I said, “I don’t feel loved.”  But God said, “I love you.”

Jeremiah 31:3 “The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”

I said, “I feel invisible.”  But God said, “I see you.”

Psalm 139: 1 “O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.”  15-16 “My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.”

I said, “I need community.  I need friends.”  But God said, “I am all you need.”

Psalm 34:4 “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”

I turned to people for support, love, and understanding.  But God said, “Come to me first.”

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

I don’t understand why things seem to have fallen apart.  But God said, “Trust in Me.  I’ve got this.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

I said, “Someday, when everything falls into place…”  but God said, “I do have a plan for you, but you are missing the blessings I’ve provided for today.”

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Day 2…

I said, “I really need a job.” But God said, “Not yet, Child.”…

Day 3…

I said, “I really need a job.” But God said, “Not yet, Child.”…

And so on.

God is so faithful.  He never grows weary of teaching me, loving me, extending grace to me.  No matter how many times He has to repeat the same lessons with me, He never gives up.  Day after day, He speaks to me.  He teaches me.  He molds me.  Bit by bit I hear Him.  I’m a hot mess, but I’m teachable.

God provides answers for each and every one of our hurts.  Sometimes He speaks in big ways, but sometimes He just whispers to us.  Many times, He provides wisdom in places we never expected.  We can miss it if we’re not intentional about listening for Him.  He is ever faithful, no matter where we are or what our circumstances.

Don’t give up, friends!  We are all terribly flawed.  We all need Him.  He will never fail us.
